The Scope

The Athlete’s requirement was to train for throws events internally, and to and warm up before National & International Competitions.

The Project

The Project was to convert a sparsely used area which was surrounded on three sides by external windows, a spectator gallery, and an internal running track, to accommodate an elite athlete internal Throws Cage for Javelin, Discus and Hammer throwing.

With the provision of all-encompassing protection net.

The Outcome

The Throws Cage dimensions being 12m wide v 12m long x 12m high. The Throws Cage consisted of an internal retractable archery net on four sides and an external heavy-duty mesh net, again retractable on four sides.

The protection netting ran 40m down two sides with a rear end net length of 20m, the opposite net was again 20 m long and retractable. The protection net height went up to the roof structure, in places reaching a height of 16m.

The Australian International Athletic team used the facility as a training camp in the 2012 Olympic Games and on an ongoing basis since.
